  raumlabor’s contribution to the 3rd Chicago Architecture Biennial is a Making Futures Mobile Workshop. This travelling learning constellation travels to the windy city to engage beyond the built environment with the spatial injustice forged through uneven urban planning and housing policies.

  Open Raumlabor University

  2015

  The open raumlabor university is a fictional institution offering workshops, excursions, and open discussions as educational formats. Founded in 2015, it builds upon a long history of learning related formats by raumlaborberlin at the same time offering a new framing for the many participatory and exchange oriented formats of the work. The ORU is part of a wider move to shift from project to practice and essentially seeks to open up a common space for exploration, improvisation and collective experimentation. It focuses on the curiosity and sense of wonder of participants, who will be encouraged to exchange experiences and develop practices together. The open raumlabor university is not fixed in time and space, and its structure and methods will vary with the context of each occurence. The ORU seeks to create a learning environment based on dialogue, deep collaboration and lasting relations. Educational interactions extend beyond the members of the university, to a wider network involving local actors as well as international contacts.

  We are happy and honored and thankful to announce - raumlabor has been awarded the golden lion in the 17th architecture exhibition „how will we live together?“ in the venice biennale. The jury composed of Kazuyo Sejima (president, Japan), Sandra Barclay (Peru), Lamia Joreige (Lebanon), Lesley Lokko (Ghana-Scotland), Luca Molinari (Italy), elaborated: […] for an inspiring collaborative approach that argues for participation, regeneration and collective responsibility, resulting in two projects that are a model for imaginative civic revitalization. This award is for all the people that collaborated with us over the years, it’s for a way of doing architecture. we like to send our biggest thanks to everybody that contributed and contributes to this fluid being we call raumlabor. together, we can change things.

  EURE VISION: SONGS AM ALLESANDERSPLATZ

  Mitten in der Stadt, direkt am Alexanderplatz entsteht in modellhafter Weise ein neuer Kiez. Musik soll diesen partizipativen Entstehungsprozess begleiten mit der Frage „Wie wollen wir in Zukunft zusammen leben?“ Mit Musik wollen wir Brücken zwischen dem Haus der Statistik und den Nachbarschaften schlagen.

  Making Futures Bauhaus+

  Making Futures Bauhaus+ is an action research project that addresses questions of architecture as a collective form and architecture as a resource. Departing from these two perspectives, it operates as an experimental research unit that advances future paths for architectural practice and education. It was initiated in 2018 as a cooperation between raumlabor and the Berlin University of the Arts on the occasion of the Bauhaus’ centenary.
