RESPONSE:ABILITY. In real-time: a myriad of simultaneous events is spatially framed and underscored by the festival’s architecture. Two elements serve as a physical frame for the changing programme of workshops and presentations that take place in quick succession. An abstract landscape unfolds as a bridge between foyer and exhibitions hall becoming a space of action and a three-dimensional projection screen at the same time. Light textile bands function as mobile walls and define several flexibel multi-purpose spaces. Without any clear differentiation between stage and podium, actors and audience can move freely and are invited to appropriate the various spaces by bringing them out of their ‘stand-by’ mode.
The festival IN TRANSIT 2011 deals, with regards to contents, with the role of the spectator as within the time of four days and a chronological tight timing device there takes place a multiplicity of different performances. The spectator is constantly staying in motion – the spatial situation is changing according to this. The alternating programmatic and conceptual base situation between spectator and actor influences the spatial concept of the festival. Various encounter possibilities between spectator and actor are programmatically integrated and amplified through the spatial configuration of the stage and seating area. The organization orientates itself on the spatial qualities within the House of Cultures of the World, incorporating and magnifying them even more.
