Köln, Germany 2006
The Herz Jesu church is located right at the centre of Cologne at Zülpicher Square. It has not been used as a parish church for years. In cooperation with local actors we developed concepts to convert the monument protected church building into a café and meeting point for young people using minimal building measures and flexible fittings.
Cottbus Neu-Schmellwitz, Germany 2006
Neu-Schmellwitz is a pre-fabricated residential area in north Cottbus, built in the 1980s. The area is characterized by large percentages of vacancy. Within the context of a workshop on open space design and temporary use, we suggested accompanying the dismantling process of the area by diverse cultural initiatives. An important aspect was to strengthen public exchange between residents and actors. We suggested installing an info-café and a lookout tower for that purpose.
Stolzenhagen, Germany 2006
In 2006 we held our first workshop on experimental building in Stolzenhagen. The participants, from the areas of architecture, design, craftwork and psychology, took part in a discussion on experiment in rural and urban building, life and residence. The group built a roof terrace on top of an empty stable building. This wooden construction serves as both a retreat and a lookout platform and is the perfect place for reading, sunbathing and picnicking.
Guben, Germany 2006
As part of Guben town festival we built a pavilion for a café including exhibition space for the activities of the IBA Fürst Pückler Land, providing room for information and exchange on the urban regeneration taking place there. The structure’s spindle shape made reference to the wool production that used to take place in Guben. Our unusual two-day on-site building process awakened much interest for the IBA in the town’s citizens.
