Six plays and a voyage of discovery through the interworld. Odysseus comes home and no longer recognises his native island of Ithaca. The theatres of the Ruhr have invited six European authors to retell Homer's famous epic poem. The individual episodes are linked to form a complete story, which is performed on five weekends. The audience undertakes a journey from theatre to theatre that forms its own odyssey through the world of light and shadow of a European metropolitan landscape. raumlaborberlin presents a surprising change of perspective. Where are we? In a landscape of memories or in the scenario of a near future?

Invited by Storefront for Art and Architecture the Spacebuster was developed and designed to explore the qualities and possibilities of public space in New York City. Spacebuster interacts with the architectural and the social space and its conditions. It opens urban space for temporary collective uses. The Spacebuster is build on the basis of a step van and a big inflatable space coming out of the back of the van fitting up to 80 persons in it. People enter the bubble through the passenger’s door of the van walking through to the back down a ramp right into the inflated space. The bubble is supported by air pressure generated by a fan underneath the ramp. The membrane of the bubble is translucent so people on the inside can see schematically what´s going on outside and vice versa. So the membrane acts as a semi permeable border between the public and the more private.

The balcony of Salzburger Landestheater becomes an enlargement of the "smoker's foyer". Readings, cinema, concerts, dancing or casino can take place in this additional room. The bubble is translucent and very well adapted for projections from inside or outside. The result is a completely new view at night. Local and friendly artists are resposible for performances on the balcony.
Eindhoven, Netherlands 2008
Invited by the „GLOW“ festival, raumlabor designed together with plastique-fantastique in cooperation with Designhuis-Eindhoven, the „GLOW-Lounge“ festival centre. A light object out of 600 crates. Unique in the Netherlands, for the third successive time the center of Eindhoven is the stage and podium for „GLOW: Forum of Light in Art and Architecture“. We placed the center, a gateway to the public space, in the middle of an pedestrian refuge island between the PSV-Stadium and the headquarter of the Phillips company. The transformation of the site, the pneumatic spatial mantle gives up space for concerts, spontaneous readings as soon as performance and dj-appearance. Guests like Moxxs (NL) and Silas Bieri (illeist, CH). Catering concept by Designhuis-Eindhoven.

For the "house of imagination" raumlabor berlin interlaces two architectural ideas of living space in Torstrasse 166: A 1:1 modell of a Plattenbau flat type P2 which is living reality in Halle-Neustadt and many cities of the former GDR is built into a Gründerzeit flat. Both models date from a time of mass production of living space, the Gründerzeit as a market driven approach, the P2 flat as a government-controlled approach.

Design of a festival centre for the Steirischer Herbst Festival 2008 whose main theme is “Misfortune avoidance Strategies”. The festival centre will be located in an empty baroque museum building. We’re interested in the idea of building an explosion a shape and structure which develops a fascinating force at the exact moment of its dissolution. We will reduce the colours of the interior walls, floors and fixtures to a few grey tones so that only the shapes of the objects stand out.

“Silver Pearl Congress Centre and Spa” was a temporary hotel and festival centre for “Art goes Heiligendamm”. In appearance it alluded to the profile of the Hotel Kempinski, Heiligendamm, “The White Pearl”, where the 2007 G8 summit took place. It had a spa, a sauna, a golf course, comfortable slumber suites with a view of the sea and a security fence. There you could do what was prohibited in Heiligendamm: proclaim your opinion, demonstrate at the fence and relax.
