RESPONSE:ABILITY. In real-time: a myriad of simultaneous events is spatially framed and underscored by the festival’s architecture. Two elements serve as a physical frame for the changing programme of workshops and presentations that take place in quick succession. An abstract landscape unfolds as a bridge between foyer and exhibitions hall becoming a space of action and a three-dimensional projection screen at the same time. Light textile bands function as mobile walls and define several flexibel multi-purpose spaces. Without any clear differentiation between stage and podium, actors and audience can move freely and are invited to appropriate the various spaces by bringing them out of their ‘stand-by’ mode.

Der Planet ist klein geworden. Unser Denken wird groß werden müssen damit wir den Herausforderungen, die uns ein Überleben auf unserer Erde sichert, gerecht werden können. Buckminster Fuller beschreibt es in seinem wunderbaren Essay: „Anleitung für das Raumschiff Erde“ als der Moment des Erwachsenwerdens unserer Zivilisation: Zeitgleich mit den schwindenen Energie- und Rohstoffressourcen hat der Mensch heute einen Bewußtseinseinsstand erreicht der ihm ermöglicht mit den Ressourcen zu haushalten. Die Zivilisation in ein Gleichgewicht mit den gegebenen Möglichkeiten, bis jetzt nur unser Planet, zu bringen ist die Aufgabe der kommenden Jahrhunderte.

For the 4th European Month of Photography raumlaborberlin realizes the installation. SOFT SOLUTION located at the festival center at the Berlinische Galerie. The installation opens up a dialogue between to appearances of a spatial structure: on the outside it´s soft, pneumatic, ephemeral on the inside sharp edged and hard. Which is the original which the copy? Is it a metamorphosis or a blurred reflection? While indoors the iconic object plays with the found construction grid, outdoors it acts as an attractor and an activator of the public space.
