Voices - Stimmen ...first recording raumlabor hat zusammen mit Bernadette La Hengst und den Stimmen um das Haus der Statistik einen Chor ins Leben gerufen. Der Chor macht weiter und alle sind willkommen mitzusingen, für die nächsten paar Wochen online via Facebook live. Chorproben sind immer Mittwochs 18.30 bis 19.30! Das Gesamtprojekt Haus der Statistik ist ein Produkt aus zivilgesellschaftlichem Engagement und kooperativer Stadtentwicklung. Im Zusammenwirken werden aus Einzelnen gemeinsam produktiv wirkende Raumproduzent:innen.

At the BIENNALE DI ARCHITETTURA, VENICE the software SEDIA VENEZANA was introduced and tested. The software is a set of construction plans and instructions for modules, which are developed for easy assembly. The construction methods are constantly tested and improved. The modules can be assembled into chairs, tables, and shelves, as well as walls and shelters. The participants can transform the modules accidentally or intentionally. A process of learning by doing. The team will record and reuse all possible mutations of the system and incorporate them into a growing structure.

Exibition architecture for the festival transmediale.10 at Haus der Kulturen der Welt. The space station, as an extreme example of the utopian city and efficient habitable structures, is an integral part of the past century’s vision of the future. This future has arrived, and the dream of inhabited cities in outer space will remain unfulfilled for a long time to come. For transmediale.10, raumlaborberlin occupies the foyer of the House of World Cultures with a research station called the Futures Exchange. Special modules serve as workshops and communication areas designed for the occupancy of artists and visitors. As primary building materials, the doors of East German panel flats which had to yield to wrecking balls have been salvaged and re-appropriated for use. Originating from Halle-Neustadt they are a symbol for the shrinking and deconstruction of this town, which was conceived in the early 60’s as part of a utopian vision for the post-war modernist city. The doors, representing waste and the failure of the 20th Century’s ideological struggles, now find new life as transmediale.10’s temporary space station for process-based artistic practice.

raumlabor_berlin is engaged with temporarily transforming locations: a gallery into a laboratory, a public square into a location for scientific discourse or a cold corridor into a place with new social qualities. When spaces are meant not only to be neutral shells for content but also to convey particular functions and serve as catalysts, the way of dealing with these spaces, their design and programming have to be integral components of the overall conception. For CTM.09, raumlabor_berlin modifies the corridor of Kunstraum Kreuzberg/Bethanien - a space of transit - into a communicative and social centre for the building. For this, they will invent a new structure to be built into the space, which will be constructed out of doors from demolished pre-cast concrete buildings in Halle-Neustadt.

For the "house of imagination" raumlabor berlin interlaces two architectural ideas of living space in Torstrasse 166: A 1:1 modell of a Plattenbau flat type P2 which is living reality in Halle-Neustadt and many cities of the former GDR is built into a Gründerzeit flat. Both models date from a time of mass production of living space, the Gründerzeit as a market driven approach, the P2 flat as a government-controlled approach.

Design of a festival centre for the Steirischer Herbst Festival 2008 whose main theme is “Misfortune avoidance Strategies”. The festival centre will be located in an empty baroque museum building. We’re interested in the idea of building an explosion a shape and structure which develops a fascinating force at the exact moment of its dissolution. We will reduce the colours of the interior walls, floors and fixtures to a few grey tones so that only the shapes of the objects stand out.

The System is a labyrinthine structure made of 223 doors from buildings that have been demolished in Halle-Neustadt. It opens up spaces to the visitors in unexpected ways, reflecting diverse aspects of our work.
Rostock, Germany 2007
“Silver Pearl Congress Centre and Spa” was a temporary hotel and festival centre for “Art goes Heiligendamm”. In appearance it alluded to the profile of the Hotel Kempinski, Heiligendamm, “The White Pearl”, where the 2007 G8 summit took place. It had a spa, a sauna, a golf course, comfortable slumber suites with a view of the sea and a security fence. There you could do what was prohibited in Heiligendamm: proclaim your opinion, demonstrate at the fence and relax.
